Punch Lane prides itself as one of the original Melbourne laneway dining places. Hidden away on Punch Lane between Bourke and Little Bourke Street sits this inviting restaurant. Wine bottles on the walls and wooden tables add to the warm and welcoming feeling. From the moment you walk into the dimly lit rooms with exposed bricks, wine racks containing an amazing array of often hard to get wines, (and we love the coat and hat racks) you feel welcome – friendly and professional waiters add to the ambience of this classic of Melbourne wine bars.
When it comes down to business, these guys know what they are doing. And they are no short of culinary geniuses. Who knew a bit of ham wrapped around a date (and stuffed with blue cheese) could be such a taste sensation. Well, Punch Lane clearly did. These were elevated by being warm and the pancetta being crispy. You could end up eating an entire bowl to yourself. Another crowd favourite is their famous Roast Aylesbury duck breast, parsnip puree, pickled quince, red vein sorrel. Take a bite and, gosh! You’ll be in your happy place. They achieved that perfect balance of sweetness with the gamey meat and perfectly rendered fat and skin. When you are done devouring one (or, maybe even a few) of their delicious fare, you must make some room for dessert as well. Oh, you must! because they are not done just yet. The Chefs at Punch Lane draw yet another sensational punch when it comes to pleasing a person’s sweet tooth. Their famous Tea & Lamington – chocolate & coconut mousse, milk tea ice cream, cassis gel, is a rave amongst its regular patrons.
The service is exceptional. With a lovely buzz all around and the restaurant lively as always; the staff relaxed and friendly whilst providing a high level of table service, amazing food and a creative and well-priced wine list makes this place a complete dining experience. This is full-service dining without any pretension. Don’t miss to read the highlights of one of the Best Modern Australian Restaurants Melbourne, Punch Lane below:
