Pass the hanging cheongsam in the narrow cafe’s window and head up the rustic wooden stairs of the 120-year-old former textile factory to the first floor. This level houses an established restaurant, the top floor turns bar at night. Seamstress has built a name for itself since opening in 2007. One step inside Seamstress Bar and Restaurant and you will think you have accidentally entered a Chinese laundry. Colourful clothes hang from the ceiling producing a kaleidoscope of colours, creating a magical effect in this atmospheric bar. True to its name, the bar is actually housed in a former textile factory. There is also a dining room downstairs which has a pan asian inspired  menu.

Coming down to brass tacks, their duck rice crepe money bag, roast duck breast, black garlic, & plum sauce is one the most inventive dish on their menu and its taste never disappoints. It is styled exactly like a money bag, tied with some greens. Even the crepes are nice and soft and the plum sauce is not overwhelming and sweet; but just a touch enough to compliment the dish. For those who love some seafood, their maple seared scallops, smoked rainbow trout, crispy shallot, apple salad with a Nam Jim dressing is simply out of this world. The scallops pleasantly juicy and the apple quite dominant in the salad, providing a light and refreshing meal.

The food was well-thought-out, interesting and tasty.  The service and space are relaxed but intimate allowing for lovely lunch time conversation.  The weekday lunch is good value and you will surely find space – make sure you book if you are ever coming on a Friday night.
