Whilst the downstairs, which hosts the cellar bar and the grill is tastefully dark and elegant, the restaurant upstairs is opulence defined. The glass chandeliers, gilded ceilings, and oil paintings put one more in the mind of a 19th-century estate belonging to royalty than a restaurant in the heart of 21st century Melbourne.
This is a destination dining place. One for an occasion when you want pomp and circumstance and to be made a fuss of. The white tablecloths and the utterly devoted service of the team here make it an occasion. Their Yellowfin Tuna, Jamon Iberico, Charred Leek, Fennel and Red Onion Campione, Toasted Brioche should definitely be your opener and trust the magical touch of the Chef, it will do the job beautifully. A big square slab of pink tuna accompanied by a jewel-like a sliver of salty Jamon Iberico. Who would have thought that few minute brioche crumbs could add so much texture and a touch of toastiness! The duck and porcini tortellini – so classic, sterling standard classic, is also one of the crowd favourites. Beautiful thin pasta encasing a delicious meat filling and then the sweetness of pear to partner the rich duck, simply amazing. Ending the meal with the Tartufo, which comes in a chocolate ball filled with chocolate and hazelnut mousse with ricotta ice-cream, will surely become your personal highlight and “wow” moment.
