Sambal Kampung is situated in Little Bourke Street. Inside is quite classy and comfortable. Staff very polite and friendly, seems to have the “family run” business feel. The walls pictures of their dishes highlighted by Seafood Curry Laksa & their crispy skin chicken with no rice they look delectable. This restaurant is absolutely full during the weekday lunchtimes. The orders are taken quickly and efficiently and served well within acceptable time.
The seafood curry Laksa soup is excellent with fish balls, fish cakes, squid, and prawns. Their crispy skin chicken is absolutely amazing, as the skin is cooked to perfection and had a great crispy texture, as shown in the wall picture. The chilli sauce served with the chicken was tangy, sweet and not too spicy. The beef rendang is awesome, big chunks of beef, evidently slow cooked over many hours so the chunks just peel apart to the touch of a fork. The rendang sauce is thick and delicious with warm spices like cinnamon and plenty of chilli too. Roti is good with a crackly shell and delicate tissue paper-like interior. The most favoured is not just one but two – The Seafood Laksa and Char Kway Teow. Don’t miss to read the highlights of one of the Best Malaysian Restaurants Melbourne, Sambal Kampung below:
